Why Visit Bwindi ? Bwindi impenetrable national park lies in the southwestern part of Uganda on the edge of the rift valley. It’s a misty landscape covered by the oldest biologically diverse in the rainforest jungle and the park dates over 25,000 years ago and contains almost 400 species of plants.

The park is accessible on foot, and composed of 331 square kilometers of both Montana and low land forest.
Bwindi impenetrable national park is more famous for the 320 mountain Gorillas left in the world . It’s almost half of the worlds Gorilla population. Including habituated gorilla groups which can be trekked.

The park also provides shelter to the mammals such as primates including monkeys, chimpanzees, elephants, leopards and antelopes and the white and black colobus monkeys.

There are over 400 bird species such as hornbills and Turacos, green tinkerbird, Cinnamon-chested bee eaters, mountain and yellow-streaked green bulls, red faced woodland warbler, white tailed fly catcher, white browed, hosted in the rain forest including 23 Albertine Rift endemics, 110 species of butterflies, species of ferns and 120 species of trees.

Bwindi impenetrable national park has four gorilla trekking sectors Rushaga, Nkuringo, Ruhija and Buhoma all these sectors are open for tourism.

Bwindi forest was also a habitat to the Batwa people who were the first people to inhabit the forest 400,000 years ago.

Bwindi impenetrable national park is one of the best national parks in Uganda, discovered by a big number of tourists although they end up missing the magic world of the forest.

Getting to Bwindi impenetrable national park

The park is accessed by air and road, depending on your budget and time. Private car hire can easily accessed although, it requires 4WD cars which do not struggle up to hills.

It takes 9-10 hours to drive from Entebbe international airport and 40 minutes to Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip using a flight.

On this journey you will enjoy different encounters and stopovers including the equator, culture museum, craft shops but this an amazing experience for those travelling by road.

People and culture

After your gorilla trekking one can relax and rest at Lake Bunyonyi after the body is exhausted. Especially for people who trek in Nkuringo and Buhoma sector, Lake Bunyonyi can be one of the magnificent sites not to miss out.
There different activities like boat cruises, canoeing, water spots and many more. For those gorilla trekking in Ruhija you can visit Lake Mutanda in Kisoro for different activities like boat rides, cycling, sun bathing and community walks.

Accommodation and lodges

All the sectors of Bwindi have an impressive luxury lodges/ accommodation ranging from luxury, mid-range and budget as well as restaurants, craft stalls and many more when you’re on Gorilla trekking the lodges will be your home away from home addition to your unforgettable trip.

The lodges are located at the park headquarters Gorilla habituation. Uganda is the only country which offers gorilla habituation, a process which gives tourist a chance to spend 4 hours with the mountain Gorilla along with researchers in Bwindi impenetrable national park.
