The 4 days Murchison falls and Budongo chimpanzee trekking is an adventurous safari that will take you to Murchison Falls National Park which is the largest and one of the first national parks in Uganda.

During the 4 days of Murchison falls and Budongo chimpanzee trekking, you will be able to view different animals like rhinos at Ziwa rhino sanctuary, buffaloes, lions, leopards, elephants, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, giraffes, Jackson’s hartebeest, hippos, Nile crocodiles, and warthogs, among others, during the game drive and boat cruise to the bottom of the falls.

You will also engage in chimpanzee trekking, where you will be able to spend time with the chimpanzees in Budongo forest.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Murchison Falls National Park via Ziwa Rhino sanctuary

On the first day of the safari, you will be picked up by our driver guide from your hotel very early in the morning to start your safari to Murchison falls national park. The journey takes about 5 to 6 hours of driving, and on the way, you will have a stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary to trek rhinos and then proceed with another stopover for an en-route lunch.

After lunch you will continue to Murchison falls national park and upon arrival, you will drive to the top of the falls, where you will be able to view the most powerful waterfall, listen to its roars, and take photos and record videos, among other things. From the top of the falls, you will connect to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Morning game drive and boat cruise to the bottom of the falls

After an early breakfast on the second day of the safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to go for a morning game drive in the park, where you will be able to spot animals like buffaloes, elephants, warthogs, lions, leopards, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, Jackson’s hartebeest, and oribi, among others. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will go for an afternoon boat cruise to the bottom of the falls, which takes about 2-3 hours. During the boat ride, you will be able to view hippos in water, Nile crocodiles basking on the shores, other animals drinking water, and aquatic bird species, among others. After the boat cruise, you will drive back to the lodge for an evening of relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking in Budongo forest.

On the third day of the safari, you will have an early breakfast and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Budongo forest for chimpanzee trekking briefing. After the briefing, you will start trekking in the forest in search of the chimpanzees, which takes about 2 to 5 hours depending on their location, as they like to move from one place to another in search of food.

During trekking, you will be able to view other primates, birds, plant and tree species, and once the chimpanzees are located, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their habitat, where you will get a chance to learn more about their behaviors, watch them carry out their daily activities like feeding, breastfeeding, and playing, take photos and record videos.

After chimpanzee trekking, you will drive back to the lodge for lunch, whereafter you will spend the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Departure to Kampala/Entebbe

On the last day of the Uganda Safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to go for a short morning game drive in the park, where you will be able to view some of the animals that you might have missed during the previous game drive.

After the game drive, you will drive out of the park and start the journey back to Kampala with lunch en route. You will arrive in Kampala in the evening and upon arrival, your driver guide will either drop you off at your hotel or drop you off at the airport for your departure flight.
