Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Fly to Bwindi impenetrable national park,
On the first day of the 6 days fly in safari to Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth national park, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari as you prepare for your domestic flight to Bwindi impenetrable national park. There are morning and afternoon flights therefore you will choose your flight depending on your arrival time or preference. The flight takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes which saves you an 8 hour drive on the road and upon arrival at Kihihi airstrip your driver guide will pick you and transfer to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch you will go for an optional community tour in the neighboring villages where you will visit the Bakiga and the Batwa/pygmies who used to stay in Bwindi forest before it was gazetted into a national park. During the community tour you will get an opportunity to interact with the local people, learn about their lifestyle, culture, way of living, taste their traditional dishes, enjoy entertainments through music, dance and drama from Batwa women, explore the forest where the Batwa used to live among others. After the community tour you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park
Gorilla trekking,
After an early breakfast on the second day of the 6 days fly in safari to Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth national park you will carry packed lunch from the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be divided into groups of 8 people where each group will be allocated a gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with gorilla trails to follow. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park starts at around 8:00am and takes about 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on where they are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food.
During trekking you will be able to view other primates like vervet monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, olive baboons, bird species, animals among others. Once the gorillas are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you an opportunity to take photos, watch them carry out their daily activities, record videos, learn about their behaviors, habits among others. After the one hour encounter with the gorillas you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and then meet up with your guide to transfer to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park
After breakfast on the third day of the safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park. The journey to Queen Elizabeth national park takes about 3 to 4 hours drive passing via Ishasha sector which is located in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth national park. Ishasha sector is famously known for harboring the tree climbing lions which will be viewed lying up in the acacia, fig tree branches during the game drive. After the game drive you will have en-route lunch and then continue to Queen Elizabeth national park where you will have great views of animals as you drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Morning game drive/ lion tracking and afternoon boat cruise
Game drive/ lion tracking experience,
On the fourth day of the 6 days fly in safari , you will have an early breakfast and your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for an adventurous game drive or lion tracking experience in Kasenyi plains. During the game drive you will be able to view animals like elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, bushbucks, warthogs, predators like lions, leopards, variety of bird species among others. After the game drive you will drive to Lake Katwe a Crater Lake where you will interact with the local people that earn a living through extracting rock salt from the Crater Lake and selling it to traders. Lake Katwe also harbors migratory birds such as flamingos which will are commonly seen during the month of October. After the Crater Lake tour you will return to the lodge for lunch.
Afternoon Boat cruise,
After lunch you will drive to the landing site near the luxury Mweya safari lodge for an interesting boat cruise on Kazinga channel a water channel that joins Lake George and Lake Edward. During the scheduled boat cruise which starts at 2:00pm, you will be able to enjoy stunning views of the beautiful scenery, landscape, view animals like elephants, warthogs, buffaloes, waterbucks at a close range drinking water along the banks, view large concentrations of hippos and Nile crocodiles in water, aquatic birds like herons, fish eagles, kingfishers, hornbills, cormorants, bee-eaters among other. After the boat cruise which takes about 2 hours, you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and guided nature walk
Chimpanzee trekking
After breakfast on the fifth day of the 6 days fly in safari to Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth national park, your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to transfer to Kyambura gorge for a briefing about the rules and regulations of chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing you will start trekking in the forest in search of the habituated chimpanzees and once found spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you a chance to observe their habits, behavior, watch them feed, breastfeed, hunt, fight, play, rest, take photos and record the moments. After the one hour with the chimpanzees you will meet up with your driver guide and return back to the lodge for lunch.
Nature walk
After lunch you will go for an interesting nature walk in the park where you will get an opportunity to get up close and personal with animals like Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs, buffaloes, elephants, listen to sweet sounds of bird species, enjoy the cool breeze, take beautiful pictures among others. After the guided nature walk you will drive back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Fly/ drive back to Entebbe
After a relaxed breakfast on the last day of the 6 days fly in safari to Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth national park, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Mweya airstrip for your flight to Entebbe international airport where you will board your international departure flight.
