The safari will take you to Volcanoes national park in Rwanda where you will be able to spend time with the golden monkeys and Bwindi impenetrable national park in south western part of Uganda where you will be able to spend one hour with the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural environment.

Detailed itinerary     

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Volcanoes national park

Depending on your location in Kigali on the first day of the 5 days Rwanda golden monkeys and Bwindi gorillas safari, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then go for a city tour in Kigali where you will be able to visit the Kigali Genocide, Kimironko market, art centres among others. After the city tour, you will have lunch and then start the journey to Volcanoes national park and upon arrival, you will connect to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Golden monkey trekking and Ibyi’wacu cultural tour

After an early breakfast on the second day of the 5 days Rwanda golden monkeys and Bwindi gorillas safari, you will meet up with your driver guide to go for a golden monkey briefing at the park headquarters. After the briefing, you will start trekking in the forest in search of the golden monkeys which takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on where they are located. During trekking safari you will be able to view other primates and once the golden monkeys are found, you will be able to spend one hour with them in their habitat which gives you a chance to watch them feed, play, jump up in trees, take photos and record videos. After golden monkey trekking tour, you will return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch you will go for an interesting cultural tour where you will visit the Ibyi’wacu cultural village, learn about the local people culture, tradition, way of living, taste their local dishes, enjoy their traditional performances among others. After the cultural tour, you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park

After breakfast on the third day of the 5 days Rwanda golden monkeys and Bwindi gorillas safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to start the journey to Bwindi national park via Katuna border in Kabale or cyanika border in Kisoro in the Western Region of Uganda. On the way you will have en-route lunch and enjoy stunning views of the rolling hills, farmlands, tea plantations, crater lakes among others. Upon arrival in Bwindi national park you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park

Gorilla trekking,

After an early breakfast on the fourth day of the 5 days Rwanda golden monkeys and Bwindi gorillas safari, you will carry your lunch box and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations of Uganda gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be divided in groups of 8 people where each group will be allocated a gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is knowledgeable about the mountain gorillas. Uganda Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park takes about 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on their location and during Uganda gorilla trekking tour you will be able to view forest birds, other primates, plant and tree species among others. Once the mountain gorillas are found you will be able to spend one hour with them which gives you an opportunity to learn more about their lifestyle, behaviours, habits, take photos, watch them carry out their daily activities and record the fascinating memories to show people back home. After a breath-taking encounter with the gentle giants, you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and then meet up with your guide to return to the lodge for an evening relaxation dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Departure to Kigali

After a relaxed breakfast on the last day of the 5 days Rwanda golden monkeys and Bwindi gorillas Uganda safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer back to Kigali with en-route lunch on the way. Upon arrival your driver guide will drop you off at Kigali international airport for your departure flight or drop off at any place of your choice.
