5 Day Best of Uganda Primates Safari 2021 is one of the best safari experiences for anyone to do in Uganda. It includes visiting the wild endangered chimpanzees and the mountain Gorillas. Kibale national park is Africa’s best chimpanzee trekking destination with guaranteed best views of the chimpanzees and other 12 existing primates in the park. It is also a home to 138 species of birds, 250 tree species and 60 species of forest wildlife including forest elephants, bushbucks, warthogs, giant forest hogs and buffaloes. Bwindi Impenetrable national park on the other hand is one of Uganda’s oldest national park with diverse rainforest of over 25,000 years ago and contains about 400 plant species. Bwindi Impenetrable national park inhabits half of the remaining endangered mountain gorillas in the world and it is divided into 4 sectors including; Buhoma sector which is the oldest trekking sector, Rushaga sector which has the largest number of gorilla families, Ruhija sector and finally Nkuringo sector. Your 12 Days safari will end with a place to relax and chill after gorilla trekking before going back home, Lake Bunyonyi is the best place because of its cool weather and freshness of the breeze. Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park – Chimpanzee trekking 

Wake up as early as 6 am and transfer to Kibale national park. It is a 5-6 hours drive to Kibale forest national park in the western part of Uganda. Arrive at good time for lunch then connect for an afternoon chimpanzee trekking activity. Drive to the park head offices for briefing about the chimpanzees. Enter the forest and start trek the chimpanzees in their natural habitat, its take 2-5 hours to find them and on finding them, you are allowed 1 hour to be in their process as they swing from the branches in the canopy high above the forest floor.

Dinner and overnight stay at Chimpanzee Forest Guesthouse for mid-range/Isunga lodge for budget/Kyaninga lodge for luxury

Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Depart the Lodge very early and start your journey to Bwindi forest. It’s a 7-8 hours. Since you are not interested in wildlife, drive past Queen Elizabeth national park with en route lunch. Your accommodation will depend on which sector you will trek at. Dinner and overnight stay at Bakiga lodge for budget/Ichumbi Gorilla lodge for mid-range/Buhoma lodge for luxury

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking experience

After enjoying an early breakfast and transfer to park headquarters for briefing before you set of gorilla trekking. Trekking through the steep, densely forested hills and then finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation is an inspiring and privileged moment. Gorilla Trekking in the Bwindi forest requires stamina and can often take most of the day and spend an hour in the presence of the gorillas before you return at your meeting point with the driver-guide. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above 

Day 4: Explore Lake Bunyonyi 

After having breakfast, connect to explore the lake on a boat trip and visit some of the interesting islands. Bunyonyi comprises of 29 islands especially the punishment island and the lake is the best place of relaxation. Later afternoon, explore the zip-lining experience at Lake Bunyonyi. Relax at the lake shore with great views of the hills. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above

Day 5: Transfer to Kampala/Entebbe

After breakfast, start your journey back to Kampala/Entebbe with en-route stop at the Equator and lunch. It’s a 8-9 hours drive from Kabale to Kampala. Upon arrival and depending on your drop off advice, you will either be dropped at a location you advise the driver or at the airport for your departure flight back home.
