Detailed Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
- Transfer to Kibale forest national park: On day 1 of 11 days Uganda Rwanda safari, you be transferred from Kampala and start the journey to Kibale forest national park which is situated in western part of Uganda. You will stop along the way for lunch then head to the park where you will check in for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale forest national park
- Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale: After breakfast on day 2 of 11 days Uganda Rwanda primate safari, pack some snacks, drinking water and grab your backpack to start your journey to Kanyanchu for a briefing before setting off to search for the habituated chimpanzees in their natural habitats. The trek in the forest lasts between 30 minutes and 3 hours but only one hour is allowed for you to watch the chimpanzees closely while taking the photographs. Later on, return to the lodge for lunch and spend your afternoon at leisure or head out for a guided nature walk in bigodi wetland sanctuary.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Day 4: Game Drive and Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park

Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
- Transfer to Rwanda: Enjoy your breakfast at leisure on day 6 of 11 days Uganda Rwanda primate safari, check out and start the journey from Bwindi impenetrable national park towards the Uganda Rwanda border where you will exit Uganda for Rwanda via cyanika border after being cleared to obtain a Rwanda visa and proceed the journey to Ruhengeri / Kiningi where you will check in your at your reserved lodge, have dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park
- Gorilla trekking Rwanda: An early breakfast is an important thing to start up day 7 of 11 days Uganda Rwanda primate safari, pack some snacks, drinking water and then meet your safari driver to be driven to the park headquarters for a briefing about what gorilla trekking means, the dos and don’ts during gorilla trekking among others. After the briefing, start the adventurous journey in the habitat of gorillas as you search for a habituated gorilla family for trekking while encountering other wildlife with in the park. Once you finally spot the gorilla family, you are allowed a maximum duration of one hour with the gorillas. Return to the lodge for lunch and spend your evening relaxed at your lodge or have a guided walk to visit the twin lakes of Burela and Ruhondo or visit Ibyiwacu cultural village for a cultural touch before your overnight.
Day 8: Golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes national park
- Golden monkey trekking: After breakfast on day 8 of 11 days Uganda Rwanda safari, meet your safari driver once again to be driven for a briefing by the rangers about the golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes national park. The briefing is conducted in the morning just like the one for gorilla trekking then set off into the forest to look for the most cheerful primates for about 30 minutes to 3 hours. Trekking golden monkeys is more fascinating as you will enjoy their beautiful looks, the cheerful smiles as they jump over head and take as many photographs as you can with your flashlight on. After trekking the golden monkeys, you will return to your lodge for lunch then opt for any optional evening activity present for you to engage in. You may have a visit to Ibyiwacu cultural village in case you missed it the previous day.

Day 9: Hike Dian Fossey’s grave in Volcanoes national park
- Hike Dian Fossey’s grave: After breakfast on day 9 of 11 days Uganda Rwanda safari, you will some hours hiking up the Dian Fossey’s grave at Karisoke research center. This is one of the most interesting activity to enjoy while on a Rwanda safari. Dian fossey was an American primatologist that dedicated her entire life to protect the endangered mountain gorillas in Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda but unfortunately was brutally murdered by the poachers at her Karisoke research center situated between mount Karisimbi and mount Bisoke.
Day 10: Transfer to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi

Spend the remaining hours as exploring the stunning Lake Kivu, swimming, boat cruising, and take a walk along the shores of the lake. Late in the evening, you will return to your lodge in Gisenyi, have your dinner and overnight.
Day 11: Drive from Gisenyi to Kigali for departures
