African Countries With Mountain Gorillas
African Countries With Mountain Gorillas
African Countries With Mountain Gorillas: Mountain gorillas are descendants of monkeys and wild apes found in Africa with a 98% DNA similarity to that of human beings.
These are apes found in the middle of East Africa; it was 9 million years ago that these apes separated from the monkeys and chimps.
Mountain gorillas are one of the subspecies found in eastern gorillas.
Mountain gorillas are reportedly endangered species located in Africa, including Volcanoes National Park in the northwest of Rwanda, Virunga Volcanoes in the central part, Mgahinga in the southwest part of Uganda, Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and mainly Bwindi National Park located in the southwest part of Uganda.
The number of gorillas, according to the 2016 census, has increased to 880.
The mountain gorillas are more different from the lowland gorillas. These lowland gorillas are mainly found or located in some other countries and in zoos but the mountain gorillas can only survive in the thick bamboo forests of Bwindi Impenetrable and the Virungas.
One of the mountain gorilla countries is Uganda, the ‘pearl of Africa,’ with a number of 450 mountain gorillas in ‘Bwindi National Park’ and ‘Mgahinga National Park.’
Over 12 gorilla families have been habituated and are ready for trekking; however, for those who prefer gorilla habituation, it’s also done in Uganda and, recently, Rwanda, where a maximum of 4 people are allowed to visit the family for a minimum of 4 hours.

Rwanda is among the 3 countries with mountain gorillas in the wild; this country is known as the country of 1,000 hills. The country has 10 habituated gorilla groups—all located in Volcanoes National Park.
Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is more popular since the trekking started in Rwanda.
Given this, Rwanda receives more tourists as an African country with mountain gorillas for gorilla trekking compared to other countries and the price of the permit is higher than in the other countries.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is the least, with a small number of mountain gorillas located in the Virunga National Parks.
The country is politically unstable, which makes it the least visited of all countries with mountain gorillas.
