Our 7 days Uganda Rwanda fly in safari is a luxury and breathtaking primate tour that takes you to three primate destinations, including Kibale Forest National Park, also known as the primate capital; Bwindi Impenetrable National Park; and Volcanoes National Park. During the safari you will get an opportunity to spend time with the endangered mountain gorillas, chimpanzees and golden monkeys in their natural environment.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Flight to Kibale forest national park

Depending on where you are, connect to Entebbe International Airport for your domestic flight to Kibale Forest National Park, which departs at around 7:00am and 10:30am and arrives at Kasese Airstrip at around 8:15am and 11:45am, respectively.

Upon arrival in Kasese, you will meet up with your driver guide and transfer to Kibale Forest National Park, where you will check into the lodge for lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking experience and Bigodi swamp walk

The driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for a chimpanzee trekking briefing at Kanyanchu visitor’s center.

After the briefing, you will start trekking in the forest in search of the chimpanzees, which takes about 2 to 5 hours depending on where the chimpanzees are located because they like to move deep into the forest in search of food.

During the trek, you will be able to view other primates and bird species, and once the chimpanzees are located, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their habitat, which helps you to watch them feed, play, hunt, rest, learn about their behaviors, take photos and record videos.

Later return to the park headquarters where you will meet up with your driver guide and transfer back to the lodge for lunch, after which you will go for an amazing guided nature walk in Bigodi wetland where you will spot birds like the great blue turaco and primates like the grey-checked mangabey, olive baboons, and red-tailed monkeys, and animals like sitatunga, among others. After the swamp walk, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Fly to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Enjoy your breakfast and after check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kasese airstrip for your domestic flight to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Upon arrival at Kihihi airstrip, you will be welcomed by our driver guide and then transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Upon arrival, you will connect to your lodge for lunch, after which you will either spend the rest of the day at leisure or go for an interesting cultural tour where you will interact with the Batwa people, learn about their culture and way of living, listen to their ancient stories, and enjoy their traditional performance, among other things. After the cultural tour, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking experience

In the morning, your guide will pick you up from the lodge after breakfast with your lunch box to transfer to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing, after which you will be allocated a habituated gorilla family and start trekking in the jungle.

Trekking gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park takes about 2 to 7 hours depending on where the mountain gorillas are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food.

Once they are located, you will get an opportunity to spend one hour with them in their natural environment, take pictures, watch them play and breastfeed, and learn more about their habits, among others.

After the encounter with the gentle giants, you will return to the starting point where you will be awarded a certificate for participating in the gorilla trekking experience and later drive back to the lodge for an evening of relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes national park

You will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.

On the way, you will have en route lunch and enjoy views of the rolling hills, beautiful landscape, plantations, among others. Upon arrival, you will visit the twin lakes of Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo, where you will enjoy views of the lakes and spot bird species, among others. Later connect to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Golden monkey trekking experience

After an early breakfast, you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations of golden monkey trekking.

After the briefing, you will start trekking in the forest in search of the golden monkeys, which takes about 2 to 5 hours depending on where the golden monkeys slept the previous night.

During the trek you will be able to view other primates, animals, bird species, and others, and once the golden monkeys are located, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them, which gives you a chance to learn more about their habits, watch them play, breastfeed, jump up in tree branches, take pictures and record the breathtaking moment.

Birding in Volcanoes National Park

After the encounter with the golden monkeys, you will return back to the lodge for lunch, after which you will go for an exciting Ibyi’wacu cultural tour, interact with the local people in the community, learn about their culture, history, and way of living, and enjoy their traditional songs and dances, among others.

Day 7: Departure to Kigali

This is the last day of your Combined safari. Have breakfast at leisure, check out of the lodge and meet with your driver guide to start the journey to Kigali. Upon arrival, you will go for a short city tour where you will visit Kimironko market, art centers, the Kigali genocide memorial center, among others.

Have lunch and later transfer to Kigali International Airport, where you will be dropped off for your departure flight or dropped off at any place of advice that brings your tour to an end.
