The 11 days Uganda Primates and Zanzibar safari is an exciting safari that will take you to different destinations including Kibale Forest National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where you will be able to spend time with the endangered mountain gorillas and chimpanzees in their natural environment. During the 11 days Uganda primates and Zanzibar safari, you will also visit Zanzibar where you will be able to tour the prison island, spice tour, enjoy the safari blue experience, and also relax at the beach.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to a hotel in Entebbe

Depending on your arrival time at Entebbe International Airport on day 1 of the 11 days Uganda primates and Zanzibar safari, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then transfer to the hotel in Entebbe.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast on day 2 of the 11 days Uganda primates and Zanzibar safari, your driver guide will pick you up from the hotel to transfer to Kibale National Park. The journey takes about 6 to 7 hours drive and on the way you will have en-route lunch and enjoy stunning views of the farmlands, Rwenzori Mountains, tea plantations, Lake Gorge, crater lakes among others. Upon arrival in Kibale National Park you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp walk

After an early breakfast on day 3 of the 11 days Uganda primates and Zanzibar safari, you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kanyachu Visitors Centre for a chimpanzee trekking briefing. After the briefing you will be divided into groups and allocated a chimpanzee family to trek and a park guide who is well conversant with trails in the forest. Trekking of chimpanzees in Kibale Forest National Park takes about 30 minutes to 5 hours depending on where the chimpanzees are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking, you will be able to spot other primate species, bird species, and plants among others. Once the chimpanzees are found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which helps you to learn more about their behaviors, watch them feed, breastfeed, fight, hunt, enjoy the juveniles playing up in the trees, take photos, and record the moments. After the face to face encounter with the chimpanzees you will trek back to the park headquarters where you will meet up with your driver guide to return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will go for an interesting nature walk in the Bigodi swamp where you will be able to view different bird species, animals, plant and tree species, enjoy the quiet and cool environment among others. After the Bigodi walk, you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park

After breakfast on day 4 of the 11 days Uganda primates and Zanzibar safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park. On the way you will have a stopover in Ishasha sector where you will be able to view the tree climbing lions lying on acacia/fig tree branches if you are lucky. After the game drive in the Ishasha sector, you will have an en-route lunch and then continue the journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park and upon arrival, you will check in at the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

 Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi national park

After an early breakfast on day 5 of the 11 days Uganda primates and Zanzibar safari, you will carry your lunch box and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations of gorilla trekking. After the briefing, you will be divided into groups of 8 people where each group will be allocated a gorilla family to trek and a park guide who is knowledgeable about the mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park takes about 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on their location and during trekking you will be able to view forest birds, other primates, plant and tree species among others. Once the mountain gorillas are found you will be able to spend one hour with them which gives you an opportunity to learn more about their lifestyle, behaviors, and habits, take photos, watch them carry out their daily activities and record the fascinating memories to show people back home.

After a breath-taking encounter with the gentle giants, you will trek back to the starting point where you will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and then meet up with your guide and then meet up with your guide to return to the lodge for an evening relaxation dinner and overnight.

 Day 6: Transfer to Kigali/ Entebbe  

On day 6 of the 11 days Uganda primates and Zanzibar safari, you will have breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kigali/ Entebbe with en-route lunch on the way. Upon arrival, your driver guide will drop you off at the hotel in Kigali or Entebbe for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Flight to Zanzibar, stone town tour

On day 7 of the 11 days Uganda primates and Zanzibar safari, you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the hotel and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kigali International Airport or Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight to Zanzibar Airport. Upon arrival, you will be picked up by our driver guide and transferred to the hotel for lunch where after you will relax at the hotel and later go for a city tour in Stone Town, learn about the history, and then return to the hotel for Dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Prison Island and spice tour

After breakfast on day 8 of the 11 days Uganda primates and Zanzibar safari, your driver guide will pick you up from the hotel, take a private boat to Changuu Island/ prison island where you be able to see the old giant tortoises, learn about the history and then take a boat back to stone town for lunch. After lunch, you will go for a spice tour where you will explore the spice plantations where they grow different exotic spices like cinnamon and cloves, know the uses of the spices, and get to buy some among others. After the spice tour, you will transfer to Nungwi and upon arrival, you will connect to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Safari Blue experience

On Day 9 of the 11 days Uganda primates and Zanzibar safari, you will have an early breakfast and meet up with your driver guide to go for the safari blue experience where you will sail in the traditional Dhow boat, enjoy the boat tour on the island with clear and safe water, beautiful scenery, enjoy the delicious seafood and drinks, tropical fruits and snacks, visit Menai Bay, engage in snorkeling among others. After the safari blue experience, you will transfer back to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Zanzibar Beach experience and swimming with the turtles

On day 10 of the 11 days Uganda primates and Zanzibar safari, you will have breakfast at leisure and later transfer to Baraka Aquarium where you will be able to feed and swim with the turtles. You will later return to the hotel for lunch and spend the rest of the day at leisure relaxing at the white sand beaches of Zanzibar with stunning views of the Indian Ocean. Dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Departure

After a relaxed breakfast on the last day of the 11 days Uganda primates and Zanzibar safari, you will check out of the hotel and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Zanzibar airport where you will be dropped off for your departure flight which brings your safari tour to an end.
