Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to a hotel in Nairobi

Depending on your arrival time at the airport in Nairobi on the first day of the 10 days Maasai Mara wildlife and Rwanda gorilla trekking, you will be welcomed by the driver guide from Achieve Global Safaris who will brief you about the safari and then transfer to the hotel in Nairobi for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Transfer to Maasai Mara national reserve, afternoon game drive

On the second day of the 10 days Maasai Mara wildlife and Rwanda gorilla trekking, your driver guide will pick you up from the hotel to transfer to Maasai Mara National Reserve with en-route lunch and stunning views of the landscape, scenery, rift valley escarpments among others. Upon arrival, you will go for an afternoon game drive where you will be able to view different animals like elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, lions, elands among others. After the game drive, you will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Full day game drive in Maasai Mara

On the third day of the 10 days Maasai Mara wildlife and Rwanda gorilla trekking, you will have an early breakfast and meet up with your driver guide to go for a full day game drive in the reserve where you will be able to view various animals like buffaloes, rhinos, gazelle, elephants, elands among others grazing in the open savannah plains, view predators like lions, leopards, hyenas, cheetahs among others. In the middle of the day, you will have a picnic lunch and then continue with the afternoon game drive where you will be able to view other wildlife species. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Morning game drive and Maasai cultural tour

After an early breakfast on the fourth day of the 10 days Maasai Mara wildlife and Rwanda gorilla trekking, your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for another morning game drive where you will be able to view some of the animals that you might have missed the previous day.

After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch where after you will go for an interesting Maasai cultural tour where you will be able to interact with the Maasai people, learn about their culture, tradition, way of living, enjoy their traditional performance among others. After the cultural tour, you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Drive to Lake Nakuru national park

After breakfast on the fifth day of the 10 days Maasai Mara wildlife and Rwanda gorilla trekking, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park passing through the rift valley escarpment and beautiful scenery along the way. You will have en-route game drive where you will be able to view different animals like buffaloes, elands, gazelle, rhinos, giraffes, impalas among others.

Upon arrival in the park, you will connect to your lodge for lunch and later go for an afternoon game drive where you will be able to spot different bird species including flamingos along the lake shores, view animals like waterbucks, lions, zebras, elands, hippos, gazelle, giraffes, rhinos among others. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Morning game drive in Lake Nakuru national park, Walking safari

After an early breakfast on the sixth day of the 10 days Maasai Mara wildlife and Rwanda gorilla trekking, your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for a morning game drive where you will be able to spot animals like lions, leopards, buffaloes, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, elands, waterbucks, gazelle, hippos and various bird species.

After the game drive, you will have lunch and later go for a guided walking safari in the park where you will get up-close and personal with different animals, enjoy views of the sunset, colourful butterflies, listen to sweet sounds different bird species, take beautiful pictures among others. After the nature walk, you will return to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Transfer to Nairobi for your flight to Kigali airport

After breakfast on the seventh day of the 10 days Maasai Mara wildlife and Rwanda gorilla trekking, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Nairobi with en-route lunch on the way. Upon arrival, your driver guide will drop you off at the airport for your departure flight to Kigali International airport. Upon arrival at Kigali International airport, you will be picked by our driver guide to transfer to the hotel in Kigali for dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Transfer to Volcanoes national park

On the eighth day of the 10 days Maasai Mara wildlife and Rwanda gorilla trekking, you will have breakfast at leisure, meet up with your driver guide to go for a city tour where you will visit the Kigali genocide memorial centre, Kimironko market, art centres among others. After the city tour, you will have lunch and later transfer to Volcanoes national park with great views of the rolling hills, beautiful scenery, landscape, homesteads among others. Upon arrival, you will go for a twin lakes tour of Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo where you will be able to enjoy stunning views of the terraced farmlands, bird species among others. From the twin lakes, you will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Ibyi’wacu cultural tour

After breakfast on the ninth day of the 10 days Maasai Mara Wildlife and Rwanda gorilla trekking, you will carry your lunch box and meet up with your driver guide to go for gorilla trekking briefing. After the briefing, you will start trekking in the forest in search of the mountain gorillas which takes about 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on where they are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During gorilla trekking, you will be able to view different birds, other primate species among others and once the gorillas are located, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their environment where you will be able to watch them feed, play, breastfeed, groom young ones, take photos and record videos to show people back home.

After gorilla trekking, you will meet up with your driver guide and go for an interesting Ibyi’wacu cultural tour where you will be able to interact with the local people, learn about their culture, history, lifestyle, way of living, visit their homesteads, enjoy their traditional performances among others. After the cultural tour, you will return to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Golden monkey trekking and transfer to Kigali

On the last day of the 10 days Maasai Mara wildlife and Rwanda gorilla trekking, you will have an early breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for golden monkey trekking briefing. After the briefing, you will start trekking in the forest in search of the golden monkeys which takes about 30 minutes to 5 hours. Once the golden monkeys are located, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their habitat which gives you an opportunity to learn more about their behaviours, watch them feed, play, jump up in tree branches, take photos and record videos.

After the one hour with the golden monkeys, you will meet up with your driver guide to transfer back to Kigali with en-route lunch. Upon arrival, your driver guide will drop you off at Kigali International airport for your departure flight or drop off at any place of advise.
